Essential Oils for Relaxing

Relax and Unwind

Relaxation shouldn’t be a luxury, only to be taken when every other item is checked off your to-do list. It is an important part of your selfcare. Living in a constant state of stress weakens your immune system, wipes out your endocrine system, and leads to burnout.

Regular unwinding has the power to lower stress hormones, increase energy, help you sleep better, improve digestion, boost mental focus, relieve muscle tension, lower blood pressure, and uplift your mood. These benefits and more make relaxation more of a need than a want.

Remember, relaxation isn’t about numbing down or mindlessly scrolling through social media feeds. It is about intentionally and actively calming your mind and restoring your body. Try one of the following techniques.

Yoga

Yoga can be a deeply spiritual experience. In yoga, your matt is a holy place where unhealthy thoughts aren’t welcome. Instead, you get to spend a few minutes focused on your body, your breathing, and your inherent goodness. With yoga, you can simultaneously strengthen and stretch your body while giving your mind a much-needed break from your daily stresses. It also teaches you to focus on your breathing and control your thoughts.

Meditation

Meditation is one of the most powerful relaxation techniques that you can learn to do. Meditation improves concentration, boosts memory, brings mental clarity, and centers you. Meditation can begin simply. Put yourself in a comfortable, relaxed position and choose something to focus on. It could be your breathing, a mantra, or a sound. As your mind wanders, simply notice it and gently call it back. Start with a few minutes and build up from there.

Massage

Massage is powerful because it offers deep relaxation to both your mind and your body. As you feel the tension release from your muscles, visualize emotional tension being released from your mind. To increase the benefit, add a few drops of essential oil into your massage oil. Some excellent oils for massage include Peppermint, Frankincense, Wintergreen, Basil, Clary Sage, and our special sports massage blend, Fire and Ice.

Deep Breathing

Your breath is your fastest ticket to lowering your stress hormones and calming your mind. When you are stressed, you tend to take quick and shallow breaths. Every cell in your body suffers because of that. Learn to control your breathing with deep breathing exercises.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation

Progressive muscle relaxation is a technique taught by professionals. Progressively tense and then relax each muscle group in your body. This deepens your awareness of how tension feels.

Visualization

In this technique, your goal is to create a safe place in your mind where you can retreat for a few minutes when things get too overwhelming. As you build your imaginary haven, include the sights, smells, tastes, and feelings there. Using all your senses will allow you to more fully immerse yourself there when you need it.

Each of these relaxation techniques can be enhanced with essential oils. Essential oils can help you focus during your yoga practice, meditation, or breathing exercises. You can also choose a scent to associate with your safe place, which will help you get there more easily.

Relieve Stress

Aromatherapy is a powerful stress reliever. Since ancient times, essential oils have been used to calm and clear the mind.

Stress-relieving aromatherapy can be applied in a variety of ways. Diffuse it, dilute it in a carrier oil and apply it topically, add it to a warm bath, try steam inhalation, or dab it on a cotton ball for all-day relief.

Don’t Re-live It

Reliving stressful or difficult moments does nothing to heal you. All it does is keep the pain, hurt, fear, or anger alive inside of you. Living in the moment has become a catch phrase because it is such a powerful concept. Most of the time, our present moments are just fine. Pain and stress generally come from anxiety about the future or ruminating about the past. But the present is all you really have. Learn to let go, trust that everything will be ok, and focus on the little things that bring joy now.

Nature’s Fusions pure essential oils can help you live your best life. They can calm your mind, help reduce stress, and center you in the present. Don’t wait a moment longer to get the rest and relaxation that you need and deserve!
