History:
The Totonacs of Veracruz, Mexico were the first cultivators of the vanilla bean. In the 1400's The Aztecs showed the Spaniards how vanilla could sweeten their food and how to use the oil in purfume. The vanilla beans became part of the Spanish empire's trade as early as the sixteenth century.  |
